Sarrita was born on March 5th, 1988. Sarrita is a part of the Gurindji tribe, which is located near Katherine in the Northern Territory. Her father, William King Jungala, is a well-established aboriginal artist.
Sarrita’s desire to paint grew out of interest in her father’s art. Sarrita completed high school in 2005 and was invited to play netball for the South Australian Sports Institute. This opportunity has allowed her to spend time in her father''s Adelaide studio and develop her art.
‘Lightning Dreaming’ is inspired by the heavy rains of the wet season. The wet season replenishes the land and is vital to the survival of the Gurindji community. Sarrita explains that from a young age these big rains have fascinated her. She remembers seeing the storms in the distance and being amazed by the patterns formed by the lightning and raindrops.
